It’s no secret that we are limited by the batteries that power our electronics and the cords that supply them with power. If we could wirelessly power our devices without being limited by a cord, we could effectively alter how we live our technology-driven lives. Just imagine a world where you never have to plug in your phone or stop mid-photoshoot to recharge your camera’s battery.
Energous WattUp is a wireless charger for electronic devices. It can charge your cell phone and other battery-powered decisions with something that is already flowing all around us: radio waves.
WattUp is not the only attempt at wireless charging. Several other companies are taking other approaches at the same thing. For example, companies like Nikola Labs has tried turning radio frequency signals into energy. Other companies use bluetooth frequencies to do the same.
All of this is a huge step up from wireless induction charging: the closest thing to wireless charging that can be found on the market right now. The famous Qi chargers are probably the best example of this. Phones could be charged without a cord but required a special accessory case. If the case was placed directly on a charging pad, energy could be transferred. While it eliminated the need to “plug things in,” the device was still rendered immobile during charging.
WattUp takes wireless charging to a new level.
