New Blu Rays for this week. In the second of a weekly series of blog posts we highlight a few blu-rays that you should add to your collection. Every Tuesday new movies are released for your home theater consumption, so we will have your back and let you know exactly which ones you should own and rent. Whether you are a trekkie or action flick aficionado, a spy caper fan, or are simply in the mood for some laughter we got you covered.
Starring the omni-funny Craig Robinson in an eerily similar role to what Ben Stiller played in 2000’s comedy-hit Meet The Parents, Peeples is proper fare for your next family night. Wade Walker (Robinson) is eager to propose to his girlfriend, Grace Peeples (Kerry Washington.) But after a year of living together, the beautiful, successful Grace is still cagey about introducing average guy Wade to her ambitious, upper crust family. So when Grace leaves for an annual reunion at her parents’ swanky Sag Harbor compound, Wade decides to crash the gathering, charm his soon-to-be in-laws and slip a ring on Grace’s finger.
Certainly not to be confused with an ageless, cinematic treasure, Peeples is a fun movie. It is certainly worth a Redbox visit to enjoy some light-hearted laughs with your family.
HomeLand: Complete Second Season (2011-)
Ready for some serious binge watching? I dare you to not be glued to your recliner watching episode after episode of spy vs. spy, anti-terrorist, freaking awesomeness that is HomeLand. The 2013 Emmy Award Winner for Best Drama Series, HomeLand is at the very top of the mountain in terms of TV drama. When Marine Nicolas Brody (Damian Lewis) is hailed as a hero after he returns home from eight years of captivity in Iraq, intelligence officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is the only one who suspects that he may have been “turned”.
That is, literally, all I am going to give you in terms of plot. You HAVE to watch it. Plain and simple. If you are a fan of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc. you will love HomeLand, and if you are buying the second season it goes without saying that you should be buying the first season.
Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)
Alright, I’m a geek… I can admit that. But, you don’t need to be a geek to enjoy what Director J.J. Abrams brings to your screen with Star Trek: Into The Darkness. This is the much-anticipated sequel to the 2009 hit Star Trek. While the films pay homage to the original series, these are not your Dad’s Star Treks. They are pulse-pounding, blood-rushing, white-knuckles-on-your-arm-rests action films with a capital ‘A’ for awesome.
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
