The new Droid TURBO is the latest Android smartphone coming to Verizon. It packs a ton of high-end specs and will certainly rival the popular iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The Droid Turbo will run Android 4.4.4, also called KitKat. Newer Android 5.0 Lillipop is available and will probably be released to the Droid Turbo in an over-the-air update. The system also includes a Snapdragon 805 processor clicked at 2.7 GHz, 3 Gigs of RAM, and up to 64GB of on-board storage. The huge 3,900 mAh battery promises around 2 full days of battery life with normal use.
Although the latest iPhone 6 is tougher than previous versions of the iPhone, the 6 still pales in comparison to the Droid Turbo’s industrial design. Depending on the model, the body will be made out of either ballistic nylon or metalized glass fiber. The screen will be made of Gorilla Glass 3. The body will ship with a water-repellent nano-coating to protect your phone from the occasional spill. However, the nano-coating likely won’t hold up if you accidentally took the phone for a swim in your pool.
A 21 megapixel camera capable of recording 4K video is a welcome addition to the back of the phone. The front will feature a 2 megapixel camera that is of high quality. The 21 megapixel camera is one of the sharpest smartphone cameras on the market.
Another feature that’s exciting is “TURBO Charge.” In just 15 minutes of being plugged in, the Droid Turbo is able to gain enough juice to run for about 8 hours with standard use. Faster charging seems to be a trend among smart phones lately and we’re excited by how efficient it’s becoming.
The Droid Turbo will be available starting October 30th. The 32GB version will cost $200.00 with a 2 year contract on Verizon Wireless.
