One of the biggest benefits of having whole-house music is that you can have songs playing in different rooms simultaneously. It’s like your own personal soundtrack that follows you throughout the house—and you never have to miss a song or even a guitar solo.
Now Sonos is taking that perk all the way down to a single note. The company just announced plans that will make it incredibly easy to go from listening to music on a portable to every Sonos speaker you have in the house, all with a single tap. The new feature is an exclusive for Spotify Premium subscribers.
So whether you’re out running or just running errands, you can take Spotify recommendations, playlists, and friends’ playlists with you. Then once you get home, you can continue to rock out, using any and every Sonos speaker in the house.
What makes this new feature so great is that it means you won’t have to miss a beat or restart a song once you get home. Just one tap switches from your portable listening mode to your Sonos setup. Just pick a playlist, hit play, and select a room. EDG can also show you how to group those rooms and speakers within the app, so you can have music all over the house with one command.
The app even allows you to adjust volume levels, flip through tracks, and invite friends to collaborate on one massive party playlist.
The entire setup uses Spotify Connect, which is basically the secret sauce that connects your Sonos speakers to the entire Spotify catalog. To stream all of those picks to your Sonos system, you will need a Spotify Premium account, which runs $9.99 a month. Spotify offers thousands of songs at your fingertips, from top artists and soundtracks to one-hit wonders and specially curated playlists. The subscription not only ensures that you can play back all of those songs on a variety of devices, but also cuts out ads and anything else that will interrupt your listening session.
Spotify Premium is currently streaming on all Sonos speakers, which includes PLAY:1, PLAY:3, and PLAY:5 wireless speakers, as well as the PLAYBAR soundbar. If you’re looking to upgrade some of your existing stereo equipment or speakers with Sonos capabilities, there are ways to do that, too. Contact EDG at 732-650-9800 for more information about that, as well as ways to get the most out of your Sonos setup.
