Adidas introduced the Photo Print ZX Flux, a line of sneakers that are customizable through a smartphone application. The product was first launched in Europe about six months ago where it has grown in popularity ever since. Starting this week, Americans will have the opportunity to create a pair of shoes for themselves using the same app available on both iOS and Android.
The whole process is fairly simple. You start by opening the app, uploading an image from your phone, making edits as you see fit, followed by payment of approximately $110 USD to have your custom-designed shoe manufactured.
“The idea with the app is to use a photo you captured through your smartphone and then be able to easily use the same device through the whole process,” said Maria Culp, spokeswoman for Adidas America in Portland. “That wouldn’t be as easy carrying around your computer, for example.”
Adidas says orders are expected to take 4-6 weeks to complete.
